This customer has one of the largest chlorine production plants in Europe and required a high specification Euro Chlor approved bellows seal control valve that had the ability to perform well for a long period of service on a severe chlorine gas application. This application was a severe chlorine gas service with a volumetric expansion factor of 6.
Hunt & Mitton were asked to design a high specification control valve with a trim that could offer a sustainable performance for this application. A superior choice of trim design and material selection in our 5801 Series Bellows Seal Control Valves has ensured a long and trouble free service life for this end user. Taking an opportunity presented by a major service plant shutdown we were able to inspect the valve body and trim parts for any damage and wear and tear. As shown in the photos, the control valve trim of the seat, plug, two stage cage and the bellows which are all still in excellent condition after more than 6 years of arduos service and could be re used for many more years.
There are huge benefits for the end user in this proven sustainable performance from an operational cost perspective. Emergency production shutdown costs can run into thousands of dollars per hour in lost product time. In addition, replacement control valves may not be easily or quickly available. The advantages for the environment of longer lasting products mean that less material resources are required, which brings its own environmental benefits by being good for the planet.
