Control Valve Sizing and Selection

To ensure that a control valve will successfully work with hazardous chemicals such as Chlorine, Hydrogen Cyanide and many other dangerous fluids, there are a number of critical parts to a jigsaw that must be considered in addition to the essential component of ensuring zero leakage to atmosphere over the life of the valve.

  • Choice of materials
  • Design of components, and engineering tolerances
  • Availability of trim variations for a wide range of fluid conditions
  • Choice of accessories to assist with control systems and requirements
  • An intimate knowledge of the geometry of the flow path through the valve body and the affect the trim will have on flowrates leading to Cv values.
  • Finally a dedicated sizing program that uses the unique data from our valve design, Cv values and internationally accepted formulae to successfully predict the outcome of thousands of possible variations in flowing conditions

The Hunt & Mitton Control Valve Sizing program has been developed over many years and used for thousands of control valve calculations that have proved to be reliable in the field at predicting fluid behaviour for each specific application.

All we require from our customers is the accurate data of fluid, flow rate, inlet conditions and pressure and the required outlet conditions. We will do the rest, by selecting and sizing the control valve to ensure the valve performs the way you want it to. This guarantees an optimised process performance and so maximises the profitability of the plant.

All of Hunt & Mitton’s Control Valve Selection and sizing is managed from our UK office. Our control valve specialist John Keighley oversees the control valve RFQs from all around the world. John has many years of experience with control valve design, manufacture, sizing programs and calculations. He ensures that the configuration of the valve trims and components are going to perform exactly as required and that the data sheets for the fluid conditions, along with details of the valve design and the accessories have been correctly selected to ensure the valve’s performance will control the process flow as required.
